St. John’s Episcopal Hospital continues steps to meet community’s needs

FAR ROCKAWAY, NY (September 12, 2011) – St. John’s Episcopal Hospital is taking immediate steps to meet the community’s health needs. St. John’s has received permission from the State of New York to begin expansion of its emergency room, outpatient care, surgery, intensive care and inpatient facilities, St. John’s CEO Nelson Toebbe said. Those steps should be complete in the coming weeks and months, he said.

St. John’s has already begun treating increased patient volumes in its emergency room and operations have worked smoothly, Toebbe said.

The plans include adding 17 additional Emergency Department bays, 51 medical/surgical beds, 10 critical care beds, and one additional pediatrics bed, which will add 62 beds, bringing the total bed count to 319 beds.

“We are dedicated to our mission of providing excellent healthcare for the Rockaways and the Five Towns and will continue to work to meet the demand for services,” Toebbe said.

The clinic at St. John’s is also ready to see additional patients.

“People who are searching for new doctors can be assured that St. John’s can meet their needs without a change in quality and without interruption,” said Toebbe. Appointments are available at 718-869-7690.

St. John’s has launched a special website, www.careforrockawayfivetowns, to provide more information for patients and staff.
