St. John's Episcopal Hospital Names Jerald Korman, MD, Chairman of Obstetrics/Gynecology

Far Rockaway, NY (JULY 13, 2005) - - - Jerald Korman, MD, FACOG, has been appointed Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at St. John's Episcopal Hospital, South Shore, since the retirement of Dr. Snehanshu Ghosh.

Dr. Korman's responsibilities will include administration of the department and oversight of the hospital's osteopathic medicine post-graduate education program in Obstetrics/Gynecology. The residency program is affiliated with Touro University College of Medicine.

Citing the aim of making St. John’s Episcopal Hospital a center of excellence for women’s healthcare, Dr. Korman plans to raise substantial funds for the upgrading and reconstruction of the women's health facilities. Such improvements, Dr. Korman has said, are vital to the provision of state-of-the-art, compassionate health care and will enable St. John's to attract new patients. St. John’s is the provider of obstetrical care on the Rockaway Peninsula.

Before entering private practice in 1999, Dr. Korman was an assistant professor of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Medicine at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. He was also the Physician-in-Charge of the Infertility and Menopausal clinics at the Queens Hospital Center in Jamaica, N.Y. Most recently, he was assistant director of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center, in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Dr. Korman received a Bachelor of Science degree from The State University of New York at Stony Brook, NY. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. Dr. Korman is a member of the editorial board of "Obstetrics and Gynecology," Elsevier Science Inc. and a member of the advisory panel of "OBG Management" in Montvale, NJ. He has strong interests in reproductive endocrinology, infertility and minimally invasive surgery. His office telephone number is 718-869-7382.
