Bishop Henry B. Hucles Episcopal Nursing Home offers a complete rehabilitation program, including Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, and Audiology We provide medically supervised rehabilitation for people recovering from strokes, surgery or injury as well as those requiring treatment for chronic conditions such as arthritis or osteoporosis. A licensed physical therapist evaluates each resident and creates an individual treatment program, based on each person's needs for regaining full or partial mobility. The therapist works with a rehabilitation aide on each unit to help residents overcome fears and heal the body and mind together.

Physical Therapy
State-of-the-art services include:

  • biometric equipment including:
    A Kinesthetic Ability Trainer: a biometric system used for balance and weight shifting training, fall risk assessment prevention, post surgery or stroke rehab and biofeedback assessment;
    A Summit 2 Transporter: a two in one mobility aid. It is an extremely versatile walker/lift combination that provides effective ergonomic intervention to reduce back injuries for residents and caregivers. It provides partial weight bearing exercise to residents in early stages of rehabilitation and accommodates virtually any size resident;
    An Upper Limb Exerciser: a highly biometric gradable therapeutic activity to improve range of motion, hand-eye coordination, work hardening, decision-making skills, memory, sequencing and muscle strength of the upper extremities.

    • heliotherapy, using heat and hot bath treatments

Occupational Therapy
Programs are designed to teach residents and adult day care clients new methods to improve self-sufficiency, along with treatments to improve muscle and body tone and reduce pain or discomfort for those whose movements are restricted. Services include: Activities for Daily Living (ADL) training, fluidotherapy, using dry heat, kinetic activities, adaptive feeding program, specialized wheelchair devices that accommodate residents with special needs, pressure-relieving devices that promote proper body positioning and prevent pressure ulcers

Staff members collaborate closely with other rehabilitation staff to develop comprehensive treatment plans for timely and safe community re-entry.

Speech Therapy
Services include:dysphagia treatment, hearing aid assessment, aphasia treatment,
dysarthhria treatment The rehabilitation department also provides audiology evaluations and fits prosthetic and orthotic devices for those who need them.
